Join our small team to support the events program at Cricket Creek Farm! In 2015, we raised over $100,000 to renovate our old stone barn and create an event space on our farm. Since 2015 we have hosted up to six weddings or large events at our farm between May and October. The barn does not have heat so we do not host events during the winter and the special bylaw passed with the town to allow events at the farm restricts us to six large events a year. Part of the fun of the weddings at our farm is the wide variety — some are homegrown, DIY affairs and others bring in the best caterers, wedding planners, and rental businesses in the area.
We are looking for a part-time Events Coordinator to represent our events program at the farm. Most weeks of the year involve only an hour or two of corresponding with clients and responding to requests for information. As we get closer to the event season, this role requires a bit more time in order to coordinate event details with clients and vendors. During the week of an event, the Event Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the event spaces are clean, organized, and ready for the event, looping in other farm staff whenever more hands are needed. The week & weekend of an event, the Event Coordinator will also be on site to serve as the main point of contact: ensuring rental companies drop off their goods in the right place (think: bathroom trailer, tables and chairs), helping to coordinate parking, etc. Depending on the event package purchased and the needs of the client, the Event Coordinator has varying levels of responsibility as a day-of coordinator for the event. On event days, the Event Coordinator is at the farm for set up and through the duration of the event, so this role is for someone who can be on their feet for a long day up to six times a season.
If interested, the Event Coordinator can also help with planning and executing other on-farm events.
Work location: Email correspondence work can be done remotely. The work preparing for and executing the event does, of course, need to take place at the farm. Time at the farm is also necessary for giving tours of the property and event spaces to prospective clients, which happens sporadically throughout the year. Other members of the team can help fill in and give a tour if the Event Coordinator is unavailable.
Requirements:
– Ability to work independently; good judgment and problem solving skills
– Excellent time management skills (as a small and scrappy team, we need to be very efficient with our time)
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to stay cool under pressure, strong customer service skills
– Weekend availability during event weekends and occasionally to give tours for prospective clients
– Passion for supporting a small farm and family business
– Love of events!
Time Commitment:
– Off-season: Approx. 1 hour per week
– Non-event weeks, April-October: Approx. 4 hours per week
– Week of an event: Approx. 20 hours per week
Compensation: $17.50/hr, complimentary cheese and milk, 20% discount in the farm store, access to complimentary “seconds” in our meat freezer, and access to purchasing groceries at cost.
