New Calf Born to Alexa Last Week…

On Wednesday morning we had a new calf born to Alexa.  The calf is a lanky boy who was a stubborn walker.  Here on the left he is pictured with Topher who was trying to ease him along down the road.  The boy was very hesitant about walking along with us once we got near to the barn, so Topher carried him the rest of the way.  When Mike found him he was already standing and licked dry, an indication that Alexa did a good job cleaning him off and getting him to his feet.  He had a full belly too, meaning he had helped himself to breakfast.  Welcome little guy!

Just one day later, Omney had her own baby. Another little bull, and while he wasn’t born until the evening, the process was very similar. A partial walk, and then carry from the pasture to the barn. The two youngsters are quite the pair. They have the same father – our bull Philly, and are almost exactly the same age. They would make a beautiful pair of oxen.
