With the cows in the milking parlor

· August 5, 2013 ·

I like watching the cows as they get milked.  For the most part, they are calm and relaxed during this time.  The milking feels good to them, it releases hormones and empties out their heavy udder.  When I watch them I think about what they must be thinking.  I often wish that they could know how appreciated and valued their milk is to us – in the form of raw milk, cheese, butter, etc.  I hope that by just looking at them and smiling at them, I can convey something of a ‘thanks’.

You can watch the cows get milked too!  There are windows from our farm store into the milking parlor.  The cows are milked twice every day at 6:30am and 5pm.  Come observe any time!
